Setup Scanned Document Sizes
Previous  Top  Next

One very powerful feature of the Scan Manager is the ability to create scanned document types in different sizes.

These document types act as a mask that allows the Scan Manager to extract only the portion of the scanned page that you want from the full page scan.

There are two main benefits of this:

1.You can use the X and Y offset to "push" the corner of the scanned area out onto the scanner bed. This can help you compensate for low cost scanners that may not have their point of origins set at the corner of the scanner bed.

2.You can declare a custom size (and point of origin) that allows you to scan a small area (such as an address) out of a full page scan.

Example: A teacher might define a custom size called Student Address that would originate at 2 inches from the top of the document and 1 inch from the left. It might have a size of 1.5 inches tall by 4 inches wide. This could be saved as a document name of Student Address and then associated with a scanner profile of the same name.

Then when scanning test results, the teacher might use two scans. One would be the standard "full page" of the test. The other would be a scan with the Student Address profile.

The first scan would give the teacher the ability to recall the entire test paper. The other could be recalled and printed as an address label.

The possibilities are endless!

Adding a Custom Document Type

The Scan Manager ships with many standard document sizes already defined. You can add as many custom sizes to the list as you would like to have.

To add a new custom document type, follow these steps:

1.Click the Add Custom Document Type button.
2.Enter a "short name" for the new document. This is the name that will appear in the drop down list of document types.
3.Enter a description (optional) to remind yourself about the custom document type.
4.Enter any X and Y offsets needed. Think of this as "padding" between the physical corner (top and side edges) of the scanner where you put the document and where you want the scanning to start.
5.Enter the height and width of the area you want to save after the scan.
6.Specify the units of measure. The Scan Manager will automatically adjust these numbers based on the Dots Per Inch (DPI) set in the Scan Resolution of the profile. Note that if you specify Pixels - no translation occurs.
7.When you are satisfied with your settings, click the Save Document Type button to add it to the list.

Deleting a Custom Document Type

To delete any of the custom document types, just select it with the drop down list and click the Delete Document Type button.

Factory Defaults

The standard document sizes that ship with the Scan Manager can not be redefined, but you can change the X and Y offsets to adjust for variances in the scanner bed. Note that if you adjust these values too far, then any area "pushed off" the scanner bed size will be clipped from the finished scan. Any document type that is a Factory Default will have a Factory Default Size checkbox displayed with it.

Resetting Offsets

To reset the X and Y offsets to zero, click the Reset Offsets to zero button.
