The pull down menu system provides keyboard access to exit the Scan Manager (in case your mouse fails) and also access to seldom used features.

Reset Scanner - this option will reset the scanner software and change the mouse cursor to a normal cursor. This can be a useful utility if your scanner fails to respond to a software command.

Save as new filename - this option will present you a file dialog box and allow you to select a new name for the current TIFF (if allowed).

Exit - exit the Scan Manager

Scan Options Submenu

Scan using TWAIN interface - this option presents a list of TWAIN devices on your computer. When you select one, the scanning software that came with the scanner is opened.

Change Active Scanner Profile - this option will present a list of custom scanner profiles and let you choose one to be the profile that is used when you click the scan button. The current "Active" profile will have a check mark next to it. If there are no profiles you will see:

clip0004

If any scanner profiles are setup you will see a screen like this:

clip0007

Note that the "active" profile has the check mark. Selecting this item would be the same as simply clicking the scan button on the toolbar.

Change TIFF File Compression - this option would open a popup menu that would allow you to change the file compression that would be used for the next page scanned. This setting remains in effect until you change it.

The menu looks like:

clip0008

Note that the "active" compression method has the check mark.

HINT: You can use this to save different types of documents into the same file.

For example: If you are scanning B&W pages into a document you may want to use a high level compression such as GROUP4 to produce a small sized file. However this would cause a photo scanned with the same setting to be converted into a poor quality B&W scan. When you are ready to scan the photo, simply change the compression type to one such as JPEG or LZW and scan the photo.

After the photo is scanned (and stored) at the compression level that is more suitable for it, you can change the compression back to the GROUP4 and continue scanning B&W pages.

This type of flexibility allows you the best of both worlds. Great looking documents and small file sizes.

Thumbnail Options Submenu

Automatically Generate Thumbnails - if this option is selected then the Scan Manager will automatically generate thumbnails when the TIFF file is loaded. If is not selected then the thumbnails will be generated as pages are scanned or as you navigate through the document.

Zoom Options Submenu

clip0010

Auto Zoom to Page Height - if this option is selected then the Scan Manager will automatically zoom to page height after a page is loaded or scanned.

Backup Options Submenu

clip0011

Backup existing files before editing so you can Cancel - this option does just what it says. If you are re-opening a file, a copy is saved as it is opened. If you make changes (such as delete or add pages) then change your mind, you can Cancel and not save your changes. Then the original file is not changed.

Save backup copy (*.sav) after each edit - this is another "safety net". It saves a copy of the file you edited with a .sav extension.

PDF Options Submenu

clip0012

Change Compression for PDF export - this option would open a popup menu that would allow you to change the file compression that would be used for the export to PDF. This setting remains in effect until you change it.

The menu looks like:

clip0013

Note that the "active" compression method has the check mark.

Launch PDF Viewer after export to PDF - if this option is selected it will launch the default viewer for PDF documents (as defined on your operating system) and display the file that was just exported.
